Caring for your Fur or Sheepskin Coat or Gilet
- Allow your Fur coat and sheepskin garments proper space in your closet;
- Ensure they are kept hanging and uncrushed in a well-ventilated wardrobe covered only with tissue or a lightweight cotton sheet;
- Never keep your fur coat or other valuable coat in a plastic bag
- Your fur jacket requires proper air circulation;
- Use a cloth bag when traveling or transporting your fur
- Never leave your fur coat in direct sunlight as this may cause the colour to fade over time;
- Refrain from excessive use of purse straps and other shoulder straps while wearing your fur coat, shearlings coat, leather coat and other outerwear, as this too leads to premature wear and tear and may affect the pile of the fur itself;
- If your fur or sheepskin coat gets wet, shake it off and let it dry naturally;
- Put the fur or sheepskin coat on a well-shaped hanger and let it dry at normal room temperature;
- Avoid placing your fur garment near a heat source such as a radiator, as this will cause the oils in the skin to 'bleed' out of the fur , causing the skin to dry out and moulting to occur.
- Never brush a fur coat as this will cause molting;
- Regular care of your fur or sheepskin jacket, including cleaning, conditioning of the skin, tightening of any loose buttons and the mending of any early tears will prolong the life of any garment;
- Each spring store your garments in a temperature and humidity controlled vault – please see below for our storage service.

- Light marks to the surface of the skin can normally be removed with a slightly damp cloth or by using a leather cleaner, however we strongly suggest testing a small discreet area of the garment first
- Some skins are more absorbent than other leathers and we recommend spraying them with 'Scotchguard' or similar to avoid spotting or staining.

London Fur Storage
Professional storage is very important to protect your fur during the summer months from insects, heat damage, oxidation and indeed mildew. Fur vaults specifically designed to protect your fur garment offer temperature, humidity, and light-controlled environments, maintaining the quality.
The air is regulated and temperatures are kept below 50° Fahrenheit with a constant humidity level of 50%. No cupboard in your home can replicate these conditions.
Prevent unnecessary deterioration by storing and conditioning your garments every spring with us.
We are able to store your furs, whilst also professionally cleaning them for you too, maximising the lifespan of the coat by 10 to 20 years, whilst bringing back the vibrancy and suppleness of the coat.
Please note that these valuable coats are not insured by ChicSkin or by the cold storage company and must therefore be covered on your own household insurance. Please ensure you make the necessary enquiries with your household insurer.
